Obama Says Yes To Broadband Grants

Not only did President Obama approve $7.2 billion in broadband stimulus grants, but he also recently agreed to speed the program up.

Both the Department of Commerce and the Department of Agriculture are working to consolidate the first two rounds of the grant process into just one round. The first round is scheduled to start and finish this coming December.

Officials in Obama's administration spent this past summer outlining the rules and guidelines for the grant program. They also held hands-on workshops across the country for applicants who had questions.

Reportedly, more than 2,000 grant applications were submitted - but only a handful will actually be accepted.

Fortunately for smaller companies, big corporations like Verizon and AT&T have opted against applying for the broadband stimulus funds for various different reasons.
