Pittsburgh Area Entreprenuers Compete For Small Business Grants

Urban Innovation21
Entrepreneurs and small businesses located within the Pittsburgh Central Keystone Innovation Zone will have an opportunity to compete for grant money totaling $50,000, thanks to a Small Business Grant Competition offered by Urban Innovation21. Businesses must live in or have businesses located within the Hill district in order to apply for the grants.

Start-up companies as well as established businesses may apply. The competition will award one grant of $10,000, and six grants of $5,000 each. Twenty more awards of $500 each will be given to small businesses who apply for interest-free loans up to $5,000 from Zip Kiva, who provides microloans to entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Businesses can include manufacturing, transportation, business services, restaurants, coffee shops, and retail businesses. Urban Innovation21 helps entrepreneurs and small businesses in the Pittsburgh area by working with public and private partners to fund programs that help small businesses be successful and encourage economic growth in specific geographic areas.

Funding for the grants comes from the financial support of local institutions, government, and charitable organizations. The deadline for the Hill district grants is October 10. Innovation21 is already planning another $100,000 grant competition for another section of the city that will be announced soon.
