Small Business Revitalization Grants Help Rural Businesses in Hawaii

County of Maui Hawaii
Small businesses with fewer than 10 employees located within the East Maui community of Hana and on the islands of Molokai and Lanai may apply for a small business grant in the amount of $500 to $5,000. The grants are being offered by the Office of Economic Development to help small businesses in rural communities.

These areas were specifically targeted as the ones most affected by the economy and needing the most help. The Small Business Revitalization Grant Program awards $60 in grant money for every $40 invested by the small business owner, up to a total of $5,000.

The grant funds can be used for new equipment, renovations, building websites, developing marketing materials or other business purposes designed to increase business and create more jobs.

Eligible businesses must be for-profit, must have filed at least one federal and state tax return, and demonstrate proof of their 40 percent of the funds. The grants will match 60 percent of the purchase price for the needed products and services. Businesses can be corporations, partnerships, LLC, or sole proprietor. Non-profit businesses are not eligible.

The deadline for filing applications for grants is September 10, 2013.
