Entrepreneurs across the country from historically underrepresented groups have until August 1, 2015, to apply for one of three $2,500 grants in the MerchantNegotiators.com First Annual Small Business Grant competition. Application period begins June 1st.

Q. What is meant by "underrepresented groups"?

Underrepresented groups includes women, minorities, military veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Q. Who can qualify for a grant?

Small business owners with fewer than 50 employees may apply. They must be a U.S. business owned by an underrepresented group, which includes U.S. military veterans or active military, men and women of color, women, persons with a diagnosed disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Business owners must be U.S. residents who are at least 18 years old and independent owners of a for-profit business with its principal headquarters in the U.S.

Q. How can the grant money be used?

Grant money may be used to either start or grow a business.

MerchantNegotiators.com is a Houston, Texas-based web site that helps small businesses shop for the best credit card processing services. It does this by enabling small businesses to compare features and benefits of 40 credit card processing companies, which results in an average savings of 42 percent for small business owners.
