Imagine getting $50,000 for your business AND contributing to clean air -- at the same time! It's a win/win situation, as far as the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is concerned.

Small business grants up to $50,000

The state of Minnesota wants to cut air emissions, and they are offering grants up to $50,000 to companies who reduce use of VOC-containing chemicals or install equipment that lowers the amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted into the air.

Eligible businesses

Businesses who qualify must be small businesses with less than 100 employees and have painting, degreasing or cleaning operations. Other company operations may also qualify if they demonstrate a reduction in VOCs.

Grant applications will be accepted through May 11, 2016.

One company that received a grant last year was able to reduce VOCs by 92 percent by changing to water-based cleaners rather than chemicals to clean their commercial printers. Reducing VOCs is important as they are not only an air pollutant but are also proven to be harmful to people’s health. As MPCA Commissioner John Linc Stine explained it, “Voluntary actions are an important part of the solution. We’re glad to be able to offer some support to help get things rolling.”
