Montgomery County in Ohio launched a MicroEnterprise grant program last year that was so successful, they are re-launching it. But this time, the budget has increased from $199,000 to $500,000 in grant money to help small businesses in Montgomery County, Ohio.

Eligibility

Grants range from $2,500 up to $25,000. Eligible businesses must have fewer than 5 employees, occupy a storefront, earn less than $500,000 in annual revenue and be at least one year old. The grant money can be used for new equipment, more inventory and other investments to help their businesses grow.

Last year, more than 16 businesses in Montgomery County were awarded grants through the MicroEnterprise grant program. Since then, 19 businesses have been approved for funding, including 15 women-owned companies, 14 that are minority owned and one owned by a veteran.

Future of the program in jeopardy

The MicroEnterprise grant program has helped so many small businesses, especially disadvantaged businesses, in this Ohio county. Sadly, it may end soon, thanks to President Trump. Why? The money comes from the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The Trump Administration has targeted CDBGs for elimination.

What is this President thinking?
