How the contest works
In addition to cash, winners receive incubator space, expert mentorship, and ten years of freedom from state taxes. 43North is open to applicants ages 18 and older from anywhere in the world, in any industry, with the exception of bricks-and-mortar retail and hospitality. There are 3 rounds of judging: an online written application, a live video pitch (summer) and in-person finals in Buffalo (October).
Startup companies that are scalable with the potential for aggressive growth are encouraged to apply. Winners are required to relocate to Buffalo for a minimum of 12 months. Past winning companies have represented the life sciences, software, manufacturing, clean technology, and consumer products industries.

43North has been awarding cash prizes to startup entrepreneurs since 2014; 37 startups have been helped by the business competition. Each year, 8 winners share a total of $5 million in cash awards.
