One Savvy Entrepreneur Will Win $50,000 Grant in the Hatch Detroit Contest


In its eighth year, Comerica Hatch Detroit will be giving away $50,000 to another one deserving small business entrepreneur looking to open up a retail space in Detroit, Highland Park or Hamtramck.

The contest will last for four months and would be divided into two rounds of public voting to narrow down the top 10 business plans to four finalists.

Aside from the $50,000 grant, the winner will also receive a package with accounting, public relations, legal, and IT services. The purpose of the grant contest is to support startup retail entrepreneurs in Detroit, create more jobs, thus making the city a prosperous urban community.

Since 2011, 33 of the business that competed in Hatch Detroit have opened their brick and mortar business and 12 are opening up next year. It includes restaurants, home furnishing stores, coffee shops, bake stores, and more.

Comerica Bank is a subsidiary of Comerica Incorporated, founded in 1849 in Detroit. The financial services company operates under three divisions that include The Business Bank, The Retail Bank, and Wealth Management.

Applications for this year will be accepted until July 13.
