Local businesses can receive up to $25,000 each through the program, whose recipients are chosen by the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Office.
Companies that have already received funding include: Tomtec, who received a $25,000 grant to purchase components necessary for the production of a dried blood spot slide; Fairfield Crystal Technologies, who received $25,000 for the pilot production of high-brightness LEDs; KTI, a manufacturer who received $25,000 to help it qualify for a contract with the Department of Defense for phase one of its joint strike fighter program; and many more.
In a statement, the governor said that helping small businesses access funding was one of her "most important initiatives and that it would benefit the state's economy as a whole." She says that it will help spur job growth and economic development in the state.
