Rhode Island may be the smallest state in the United States, but it has big plans to support small business. The state is offering grants ranging from $10,000 up to $50,000 to support small businesses in agriculture.

Rhode Island wants to increase their competitiveness in the agricultural industry, so they are offering grants to local farmers and small businesses in the food industry. The grants are intended to help them grow their businesses. Through the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, a total of $380,000 in grants will go to local small businesses under the Local Agriculture and Seafood Act and Farm Viability programs.

Grants available

Two different grants are being offered. The agriculture and seafood grants are awarded to support farming, aquaculture and seafood production. Grants up to $20,000 are available.

Farm viability grants from $10,000 to $50,000 will be awarded for specialty crop production. These grants are designed to help increase the marketplace for these crops in Rhode Island.

The grants will not only boost agriculture in Rhode Island but also support new business and working families, according to Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) Director Janet Coit.
