$10K Grants Awarded to 32 Detroit Small Businesses

A total of 32 small businesses in Detroit were each awarded $10,000 grants in the latest New Economy Initiative NEIdeas grant program. In addition, two larger businesses each were awarded $100,000 grants.

About the NEIdeas grant program

The grant program is offered each year to small businesses in the Detroit area to help them grow their businesses. The businesses who received awards represented all sorts of industries, from landscaping to technology, child care, food and grocery stores, furniture, coin operated laundries, restaurants, clothing, hardware, and more.

Since 2014, NEIdeas has granted a total of $1.5 million in cash awards to 96 existing businesses in Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park. Other facts about the annual awards include:

  • Businesses included owners up to 94 years old
  • More than 16 business sectors were represented
  • 75 percent of 2016 NEIdeas winners were minority-owned businesses
  • 60 percent of 2016 NEIdeas winners were woman-owned businesses

The grant program is open to existing for-profit businesses physically located and operating in the cities of Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park.
