Rosemary Smith, a 4th grade teacher from Stanhope, New Jersey has won a $10,000 technology makeover grant for her classroom from the Verizon Thinkfinity Home Run Sweepstakes.
Nearly 2,000 teachers in the New York City area competed for the grant via a month-long contest.
Smith will be presented with the grant at Citi Field prior to the New York Mets' hosting the Minnesota Twins. 50 free tickets to the game will go to her students and their parents so that they can be on hand when she is presented with the check.
Verizon Thinkfinity is a comprehensive professional-development program that provides teachers with free online or face-to-face training. It also offers literacy resources to assist adult learners.
This is one of many initiatives of the Verizon Foundation, which annually awards nearly $70 million in grants to nonprofit agencies that give back to the community through education, business, health care, and more.
