Thirty-two small businesses in Indianapolis have benefited from grants totaling more than $168,000 from the Indianapolis Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC). The local businesses will use the grant money, which covers up to 50% of the work, to improve their building structures and signage.
Many of the businesses receiving the grant funds are adding additional investments to allow for even more improvements such as remodeling or expansion that will help or even expand their businesses.
Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is a national organization that works with local non-profit community development organizations to build healthy communities within urban distressed neighborhoods. Indianapolis LISC has been helping businesses for more than 20 years with support from foundations, corporations and other organizations.
In addition to the grant money, the Indianapolis businesses will receive architectural and design consulting at no charge. The grants are part of The Small Business Façade Improvement Program, which is a component of the FOCUS program– Fostering Commercial Urban Strategies, that helps local business owners improve and grow. Approved building work under the program includes new windows, painting, new signage, storefront remodeling and other improvements.
