Ontario Government Offering Agriculture Business Grants

Both small- and medium-sized businesses in Ontario who are engaged in agriculture or food processing may be eligible for small business grants from the Ontario government. The program is called Growing Forward 2, a five-year government program with funding of $417 million to support small- and medium-sized Ontario businesses.

Grants are available to three types of businesses. They include food producers, food processors, and organizations involved in agriculture or food-related businesses. Two types of grant funding is available.

1. Capacity Building

This grant fund will cover up to 75 percent of costs on projects under $20,000. Projects over $20,000 will be evaluated for grant consideration through the end of the year.

2. Project Implementation

This grant fund is for business government grants. It also covers 75 percent of eligible project costs.

Eligible businesses may apply for grant money up to $350,000 under the Growing Forward 2 program. The purpose of the grant program is to help small- and medium-sized farm, food and agriculture products businesses and organizations expand their businesses, markets and profits. It is sponsored by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
