- Omaha, Nebraska - Omaha has several pluses, including a low cost of living, institutional support for entrepreneurs, and the presence of big companies like Berkshire Hathaway, ConAgra and Union Pacific Railroad that serve as mentors and often a source for breakaways who want to start off on their own.
- Raleigh, North Carolina - is home to many global companies who are mentors to small business. It is also home to three major universities that focus on advanced technology, medical care and clean technology.
- Nashville, Tennessee - Nashville is now known not only for its music but for the increasing number of start-ups. No sales tax, low-interest loans, and six major colleges that pump out new talent are all pluses for this southern city.
