Who qualifies?
For-profit small businesses who have fewer than 50 employees and have been operating for six months or more in the U.S. may apply. All they need to do is apply and pitch their company by writing a description of their company, including company logo, and sending four photos of their business or products. Applicants may also pitch their company by attaching a 60-second video about their business.
How many can win?
Grants will include one $25,000 grand prize winner, one $15,000 winner, and eight $7,500 prize winners. Small business owners who are eligible must enter by May 30, 2016. The winners will be announced in July.
The contest has helped many business owners grow, like customized leather goods producer Blue Handmade in Asheville, North Carolina. The company was able to expand their product line by a $25,000 grant they received last year in the FedEx Small Business Grant Contest.
The contest has grown, and so have the number of small businesses across the country who apply for a chance to receive a business grant. When FedEx first launched its grant contest in 2012, the pot was half the amount it is now. Both the grant amounts and the number of small businesses who can win have doubled since then.
