Up to $500,000 in grants are awarded each quarter for small business owners. In addition to grant money, recipients receive design and technical support, and landlord-tenant match-making assistance for more advanced entrepreneurs by being matched with a Detroit landlord looking to fill a storefront or building. Business owners can receive grants up to $100,000, depending on level of business.
The competition began in 2015. Since its beginning, the grant program has awarded $1.5 million in grant funding. About 70 percent of applicants who receive grant funding through Detroit's Motor City Match Grant program are owned by minorities.
Grant money and more
The program has helped over 300 businesses in Detroit and the surrounding area. Grant money helps many new entrepreneurs get started, and free business planning programming and design services from local architecture firms are also available to increase their chances of business success.
