It's first come, first served in Pennsylvania's Small Business Advantage Grant Program, so now is the time for eligible small businesses to apply. The grant program is open to for-profit, small businesses that adopt or acquire equipment or processes that promote pollution prevention and/or energy efficiency projects.

More than 900 businesses may qualify

There are more than 900 small businesses within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and those that can create energy efficiency or pollution prevention projects may qualify for a grant of up to $9,500 in matching funds. Projects must help small businesses cut operating costs and protect the environment.

What projects qualify for grants?

Qualifying projects can include auxiliary power units for trucks, upgrades to HVAC and boiler systems, high-efficiency lighting, solvent recovery systems and waste recycling systems. The projects must demonstrate a savings of $500 and 25 percent annually in energy consumption or pollution related expenses. The program considers eligible costs that are incurred between July 25, 2016 and June 30, 2017.

This is the 13th year that Pennsylvania has offered the Small Business Advantage Grant Program. It is funded by the Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act. Last year, the program awarded 151 grants totaling nearly $1 million to Pennsylvania small businesses.
