Since 2010, Newman's Own Foundation has supported military personnel, veterans, and their families. In 2016, the Foundation added a new directive to fund programs focused on veteran entrepreneurship. Veteran entrepreneurs and organizations that work to connect veterans to higher education and other supportive networks are eligible for grants.
The foundation recently awarded $25,000 in grants to Help Our Military Heroes, an Easton-based veterans non-profit, for their work in supporting the education and career goals of returning service members. They were among six organization in Connecticut who received a total of $365,000 in grants from the Newman’s Own Foundation. Individual grants ranged from $25,000 to $100,000.
About Newman
Paul Newman not only had an accomplished career in film but was also a big philanthropist. He served in WWII, attended Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, and studied at the Yale School of Drama. He became one of Hollywood's most illustrious movie stars and also had a passion for race car driving. But he said he received the most satisfaction from philanthropy.
In 1982, Newman founded Newman’s Own, Inc., a natural-ingredient food company that donates all after-tax profits and royalties to thousands of charities around the world.
