Small Businesses in Michigan Eligible for Grants By Partnering with Local Universities

Michigan Corporate Relations Network
The Michigan Corporate Relations Network recently awarded eight small business grants to small- to mid-sized Michigan businesses who partnered with local universities on research projects that have strong potential for commercialization in the state. The grants are designed to promote innovative research that will grow Michigan's economy.

By working with research labs at universities, small businesses can increase their access to resources. The Small Company Innovation Program (SCIP) is designed to bring companies and universities together.  Matching grant funds are awarded to companies who take advantage of the program. The grant funds help cover the cost of university research projects. It enables companies to take on projects they might otherwise not be able to do on their own.

Businesses may work with any one of six major universities in the area, including Michigan State University, Michigan Technological University, Wayne State University, Western Michigan University, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor , and University of Michigan-Dearborn. Grant funding is supported by the Michigan Economic Development Corp.

The next deadline for applying for the SCIP grants is September 27.
