Kentucky Taking Applications for Small Business Grants

Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development
Small business in Kentucky may now apply for State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP) grants. Applications will be open through June of 2013. The grants are made possible through a program initiated last year by the U.S. Government Small Business Administration. The STEP program is designed to help small business increase their exports and remain competitive.

The state of Kentucky has received more than $800,000 from the program. Small businesses with under 500 employees may apply for grants of $7,500 for first-time grant recipients and $2,500 for businesses who have received grants in the past. This is the second time the grants have been offered through the program in Kentucky.

Grant money can be used for market research, trade shows, websites and marketing that is designed to increase export business by selling more products and services internationally. The grant program is being managed by Kentucky's Cabinet for Economic Development. It is part of a larger initiative in the state called the Kentucky Export Initiative (KEI).

The Kentucky Export Initiative is Kentucky Governor Beshear's program to help increase Kentucky exports by partnering with state agencies and organizations in a combined effort to increase international trade opportunities for businesses who want to enter the global marketplace.
