A billionaire named Larry Ellison from the Hawaiian Island of Lanai has a vision for Lenai and will reward small businesses who join in the effort. The reward is in the form of matching grants from Maui County's Office of Economic Development to small businesses on Lanai.
Businesses who qualify for the grants are those with fewer than 10 employees who are located on Lanai and Molokai and in the rural Maui community of Hana. They are grants for revitalization efforts in these areas. Small business owners may use the grants to make renovations to their businesses, for marketing programs that will help increase business, or for new equipment.
Small businesses who share Mr. Ellison's vision to shape the future of the island through programs that will contribute to its sustainability, as well as others whose business will contribute to the growth of eligible communities may apply. The fund for Small Business Revitalization grants was originally reserved at $20,000. Mr. Ellison's donation increases available funding to $40,000.
Small businesses interested in applying for the grant funding must contribute their own funds in order to receive the grant money. The grants will match their contribution at 40/60.
