Grants are awarded for projects that will result in clean water, clean air, waste recycling and a number of initiatives, all of which make a significant difference in the environment. The grants are part of the Small Business Innovation Research program, run by the EPA to encourage small businesses to develop new technology that helps clean the environment.

Grant recipients were located in eight states: California, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Ohio, New York and Tennessee. The purpose of EPA’s SBIR grant funding program is to support small businesses and protect the environment. Since the beginning of the program, EPA has awarded over $140 million to small businesses.

Small businesses who receive grants use the grant money to commercialize their solutions. Over 30 years, the EPA’s SBIR Program has given 969 awards to small businesses for their achievements in developing green technologies for the environment and creating more jobs.
