With state budgets tightening across the country, it's hard to find one that is actually in a position to offer small businesses even more opportunities for growth. But New Jersey is doing just that by doubling its funding to New Jersey’s Small Business Development Centers.
Great news for small businesses in New Jersey
Last year, New Jersey gave $250,000 to New Jersey’s Small Business Development Centers. This year, they doubled it to $500,000. In addition, they now qualify for U.S Small Business Administration federal funds which will be about $3 million. Even though they are required to match it dollar for dollar, it's still $3 million more that they can use to support small business.
How the SBDC helps small business
Even last year, the SBDC was able to help 534 clients start new businesses through the state's 12 small business centers. That equates to 15,000 jobs, and training for more than 12,000 small businesses and entrepreneurs. With the doubling of funding, they will now be in a position to help even more.
