The Facade Improvement Program in Albany, New York, has recently awarded grants to 14 small businesses to help them spruce up their buildings. The grants of $10,000 - $15,000 each helps small businesses improve the facade of their business which helps beautify downtown storefronts in Albany.
Matching grants
The grants are matching grants, which can be used to improve the exteriors of buildings for better functionality, overall appearance, and to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and make their businesses accessible to people with disabilities. Each grant is $10,000, or $15,000 for properties located on a corner.
The city had $155,000 to spend on grants for local small businesses. They included barber shops, beauty shops, laundromats, tattoo parlors, hotels, restaurants, pizza parlors and more. Those who applied but did not receive a grant, however, should not give up. They will be put on a waiting list for grant funding as more money for the program becomes available.
