Massachusetts Announces New Grant Program to Help Minority-Owned Businesses
What does The Massachusetts Gaming Commission have in common with small business? They want to level the playing field for small companies who want to do business with casinos in Massachusetts. A new grant program is designed to benefit non-profits, public or quasi-public organizations serving Massachusetts businesses that are owned by women, minorities or veterans.
Deadline
Diversity Goal and Business Technical Assistance Grant opportunities program is taking applications until April 13, 2016. Eligible businesses include businesses owned by women, minorities and veterans; businesses located in low-income areas; businesses owned by low-income business owners; and businesses located in areas with high unemployment.
Grant amounts
Grants will be awarded up to $30,000. The total amount of grants to be awarded is up to $100,000 in either grant awards or contracts. The goal of the program is to increase diversity in casino construction, operations and hiring. Eligible small businesses will also receive support in the form of operational planning and financial analysis.
Massachusetts Gaming Commission planners are hoping the program is a success so they can offer more funding next year.
