REAP Program details
Eligible businesses include agricultural producers and rural small businesses. Grants are awarded for renewable energy systems or to make energy efficiency improvements. Small businesses located in rural areas and agricultural producer who have at least 50 percent of their gross income coming from agricultural operations are eligible to apply.
The grant money can be used for:
- Renewable energy systems (ex. hydro power, wind generation)
- Purchase, installation and construction of energy efficiency improvements, including HVAC, insulation, lighting, etc.
Renewable energy system grants range from $25,000 to $500,000. Energy efficiency grants range from $1,500 to $250,000. REAP also includes loans from $5,000 up to $25 million with loan terms ranging from 7 up to 30 years. The REAP program is offered every year through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development.
