Out of 160 applicants, the fate of 10 semifinalists is now in the hands of voters who will decide which companies will advance to the finals. Among the semifinalists are 5 restaurants and bars, a men's clothing store, a jewelry company, two organic beauty product companies, and a hairstyling service.
Four finalists will be selected on August 18. The public then gets to vote again, and the finalists will then present their pitches to a panel of local judges who will then select the winner. One outstanding entrepreneur will win a $50,000 grant to open their brick and mortar retail business in Detroit, Highland Park, or Hamtramck.
