Winston-Salem Holds Small Business Plan Competition For $5,000 Grant

Winston-Salem Community and Business Development Department
Small businesses with five or less employees in the Winston-Salem, North Carolina area have a new opportunity to apply for a $5,000 small business grant. The Winston-Salem Community and Business Development Department is sponsoring the grant as part of a Small Business Plan Competition.

Eligible businesses must be located in the downtown and portions of the northern, eastern and southern quadrants of the city, called the Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area. They must have five or less employees. Business entrepreneurs must write a business plan that describes how they intend to start their business. The business plans must result in creating low to moderate-income jobs in the community.

The winning business plan will receive a $5,000 business grant. In addition, the business will be eligible to receive an additional $5,000 micro-loan, for a total of $10,000 in financial assistance to start a business. The deadline for submissions is February 15, and the winning plan will be selected and announced in July.

The grant is sponsored by the Winston-Salem Community and Business Development Department. The office is responsible for the city's economic development programs as well as the promotion of small business and businesses owned by minorities.
